Helping families be together at Christmas with Great Ormond Street Hospital

Christmas is for sharing

We believe at Christmas, one of the best things you can share is time together with the people you love.

This year, we’re working with Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity to help families be together. Over half of the children treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital live outside of London, so we’re helping raise money to fund brand new accommodation for parents to be close to the hospital.

Helping families be together

There are few greater challenges for a parent than when their child is ill and in hospital and this is especially difficult when you are hours away from home.

Amelia, aged seven, had life-saving heart surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital days before Christmas. When she opened her eyes on Christmas Day she gave her family the best Christmas present ever.

Thanks to her care at Great Ormond Street Hospital Amelia and her family are celebrating this Christmas together at home.

Eight year old Stanley was born with Crouzon syndrome and has already undergone many medical procedures at Great Ormond Street Hospital. Luckily, his parents are able to stay nearby in family accommodation, something his mother has described as a ‘lifeline’.

With accommodation close to the hospital, parents can be at their child’s bedside within minutes, at whatever time of the day and night, which is vital for the most seriously ill children.

Together with your help, we can help other families like Amelia and Stanley’s be together during Christmas.

How you can help

Why not pick up a gingerbread Dave, £1 (as seen in our Christmas TV ad) and get creative together by making your very own stop-motion Christmas film with our ‘Greatest Gift’ Animation kit, £5.

How to make your very own film.

50p from every gingerbread man Dave and £2 from every Animation kit will go to the Great Ormond Street Charity.

You can make a donation at the till when you shop in store, too – just tell the cashier how much you’d like to give.

Home away from home

Our Christmas campaign will help provide a ‘home away from home’ for parents, so they can be with their child to stay together as a family.

The accommodation will include en-suite bedrooms, communal living areas and laundry facilities. Ultimately, it’ll give families somewhere comfortable, welcoming and supportive to stay just a few minutes’ walk from their child’s bedside.

Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s charity is a registered charity (charity number 1160024).
