Choose Sainsbury’s SO organic meat or poultry and you’ll have peace of mind knowing where your food comes from and what’s in it.
Best of British
All our Sainsbury’s SO organic chicken, beef, pork and lamb comes from the UK, and all Sainsbury’s SO organic farms go through strict independent inspections, which means we can trace all our Sainsbury’s SO organic meat and poultry back to the farm where it was reared.
Meet the producer
Devon farmer Adam Pitts has been raising his organic Hubbard chickens for more than six years, and supplies us Sainsbury’s SO organic chicken thighs, drumsticks, whole chickens and breast fillets.
‘My chickens and I are lucky to be living somewhere with stunning views of the Exe Estuary,’ says Adam. ‘First thing in the morning they enjoy a quick sprint around the paddock.’ The newborn chicks are kept in heated accommodation, then ‘as soon as the weather allows and they are strong enough, the chickens are let out – usually from around 21 days old.’
Like all organic farmers, Adam has made a commitment to helping wildlife. This includes leaving margins around the fields that aren’t farmed, areas of wildflower cover and reinstating an old apple orchard.
